Volunteers
SCTC welcomes volunteers to its team, particularly
those with fundraising or marketing experience. If you are interested in joining
us, please telephone, e‑mail or write to us.
Services for students
SCTC provides placements for psychodynamic counselling students from time to time. We are undertaking a review of our activities during the first half of 2010 and therefore we are currently unable to offer placement opportunities.
Information for counselling volunteers
Our recruitment process usually involves:
- Completion
of an application form
- Informal
visit (optional)
- Formal interview
with trustee and supervisor
- Offer of
place in supervision group
- Offer of
client work once the recruit and the supervisor feel the time is right
Some other points that may be useful to know are:
- Counsellors must have
experienced their own counselling.
- All counsellors are expected
to attend one-and-a-half hours of psychodynamic supervision weekly.
- There are three current supervision
groups, one on Tuesday pm, one on Thursday pm, & one on Friday pm.
- Counselling volunteers are
expected to offer a minimum of two hours per week voluntary client work.
- SCTC cannot always guarantee
that all sessions offered will be filled, clients may not be available or
may not attend their booked session.
- SCTC will continue to seek
funding, venues and support staff so as to promote client welfare and the
professional development of counselling trainees. However funding is perennially
scarce
and continuation of services is subject to some uncertainties.
- A maximum of £5 per week
is allowed for travelling expenses.
- SCTC does not allow tape
recording of client sessions as this process changes the dynamics of the
client/counsellor relationship. Nevertheless, SCTC client work can be used
as the basis of anonymous
case studies etc.
- Not all our placement volunteers
are studying psychodynamic courses, but we do expect counsellors to work
within psychodynamic supervision and work towards an understanding of basic
psychodynamic
principles.
